  What is Prayer ?????

  i believe that jehovah's witnesses are a cult and that many of the doctrines of the watchtower.

  society are laughable.

  when i was an active zealous elder i prayed alot every day.

  I believe that Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult and that many of the doctrines of the Watchtower

  Society are laughable. When I was an active zealous elder I prayed alot every day. Now I pray

  2 or 3 times a week. This morning as I lay in bed waking up I had a problem on my mind and I

  prayed silently to God about it. After I was done praying the thought just hit me "wait a minute,

  how did God know that I just said a silent prayer to him.?" Even if the prayer was audible and I

  screamed it out at the top of my voice, how did God know that I was talking to him and not to

  my wife? When a person says Dear God, or Dear Father, or Jehovah or Lord does a prayer switch open

  in heaven so that God knows that there is an incoming message for Him? Or is it that God hears

  all of the thinking of every man, woman, and child on the earth and knows when that thinking is

  directed at Him? Does He hear every conversations or every wisper of mankind and knows when

  these words are directed at Him asking for help or giving praise? Or is prayer something that God wants

  us to do, not because He Himself answers prayers but that He knows that when we think about problems

  that we find solutions to our problems? When my family is together and I pray before we enjoy a meal, it always

  makes me feel awkard to thank God for the food that He has provided us because it means that He is not providing

  for the millions of people around the world who are starving. Why would God favor my family and not

  the starving families? Of course there are millions of people who hate God and have more food than

  my family has. As one sheds the beliefs that we had as JW's for 10, 20, 30 or more years, we

  begin to think more clearly. As we dismantle our belief systems some things become more clear

  but a lot of questions remain unanswered like "What is Prayer?"

  I would appreciate your comments as I try to sort this out in my mind.

  i have been waiting to tell everyone the great news, that i will live in paradise, and they will simply die, and that includes there kids.. i love all jws.

  New " Witness Only " Watchtower - Even More Controlling - Check this Out

  it had been 5 years or more since i even read a watchtower article after exiting the witness cult in late 2003. but i was curious to see if the new " witness only " watchtowers were more controlling than i remember them being 5 years ago.

  and it certainly opened my eyes to the extreme control.

  when you have been away from it - you can really see the difference !

  Flipper,

  To a person who can read and reason and use their brain, it is easy to see that the cult is becoming

  more controlling. However, the Witnesses do not look at it like a normal person would. They view

  the tightening of the noose around their necks as proof that the end is so very close and that Jehovah is

  just giving them the guidance they need to get thier spiritual house in order so that they can survive

  the great tribulation which is just around the corner since we are in the last days of the last days of

  the last days.

  All of your posts are very thought provoking. I only wish the my Witnesses friends

  could read these posts. I read one poster who said that it is not so much the beliefs

  that keep the Witnesses together, it is the feeling of belonging to something, and sense

  of community and meeting with people who have the same silly ideas and thought

  processes as they do. That is why it is so hard to reason with a Witness. You can

  show them the flip flops in doctrine. This is just the light getter brigher.

  PS Mary your last post was well thought out. You made a believer out of me.

  In the new May Awake magazine there is an article "Is Philanthropy the Answer? I knew what the answer

  was going to be before I even read it. The article has these little tidbits of wisdom. "The success of

  philanthropy will always be limited. Why? For one thing, neither money nor a good secular education can

  eliminate such problems as greed, hatred, prejudice and false religious beliefs. Accordingly, rather than

  set up philanthropic organizations, Jehovah's Witnesses prefer to devote their time and financial resources to

  announcing the good news of God's Kingdom."

  There is also a paragraph that made me laugh at the shear lie it told. "Jehovah's Witnesses do not tithe or in

  any way solicit funds." How many articles have you read in the Watchtower where the plea is made to

  put them in your will to leave all of your money, jewelry and houses to the Watchtower Society. How many

  articles have you read that ask for money and then gives the stories of young children robbing their piggy banks

  and sending in 2 or 3 dollars?

  Articles like this help JW's be the cheapest people in the world. They have to be reminded every year to be sure

  that they leave a tip at the restaurants while attending thier summer assemblies. Members of the congregation

  may be in need of financial help but tight fisted JW's will say we are praying for you and that Armageddon is near

  so your problems will go away. All the while the needing ones don't have enough to eat. There is no organized

  effort in the congregations to come to the fianancial add of the members who have a need.

  I just wanted to vent. Thanks for listening to me.

  however the april 1 "public" issue of the watchtower has some interesting wording.

  Blues Brothers also copied the article in the front of the April 1 Watchtower. I thought that it was

  very noticable that the article did not end with the words how near, soon, fast approaching, or in the

  immediate future that the end is.

  I agree with all of the comments. It is so nice to have a place where we can talk about

  our life, family, religion, and problems without the fear of being being turned into the

  elders or being tagged as an apostate.

  99% of all JW's believe and are taught that to survive Armageddon that you must be a JW or as a minimum be

  associated with the JW's. However the April 1 "public" issue of the Watchtower has some interesting wording

  on the last page last paragraph of "Our Readers Ask" ( I love how they hide this stuff (new light?) on the last

  page of the Watchtower). Here is what it says "Lovers of Jehovah God and his Son, Jesus Christ, need not fear

  Armageddon. God's battle is directed solely against those humans whom God judges to be incorrigibly wicked."

  So only the wicked will die at Armageddon. How many wicked people do you know? I do not know one person

  who is wicked. I have read in the news about people who are wicked. Is the Watchtower throwing out some

  "new light" or just giving the appearance of being more mainstream? If you were not a JW would you think that

  you would die at Armageddon based upon the wording of "incorrigibly wicked"? If only the incorrigibly wicked

  are going to die there are going to be billions of survivors not just 6 million JW's.

  So the Watchtower paints two different pictures. Only the wicked will die at Armageddon however once you

  become a JW, then only JW's will survive Armageddon keeping you from leaving the JW religion.

  What do you think about this?

  White Dove,

  Thank you for your insight! Perhaps those that have good health eat healthy foods and

  exercise and those that have plenty of food to eat also are good workers who their

  employer values. Many in the Hall that I go to, who don't have a lot of good luck

  are part time school bus drivers and window washers because they prefer to go from

  door to door more than work a good full time job. Again thanks for your comments.

  Regarding "The End Is So Close" Thread

  i just had another take on that thread, so i decided to start a new one.. i've been going to the meetings off and on lately, so for the ones of you who haven't been in a while, you would not believe how much the the borg is constantly repeating that phrase over and over again.

  its like they are trying to spook everyone out.

  so everyone is constantly saying that phrase over and over, and i mean everyone.
